Notice to Residents in Quail Creek & Sedona Ridge
Duke Energy will begin the process of turning off streetlights within these neighborhoods beginning February 17, 2023. Work will continue the following week, concluding by Saturday, February 25, 2023.
Residents in the neighborhoods were alerted to options to retain the lighting in late 2020. In the Spring of 2021, 292 petitions were mailed to Quail Creek property owners and another 505 petitions were sent to residents in Sedona Ridge. In the fall of 2021, Pierce Township posted an alert regarding the continuation of street lighting. As of March 9, 2022, only 74 petitions were returned from Quail Creek (25% in favor of a street lighting district) and 133 from Sedona Ridge (26% in favor of the street lighting district).
Based on the responses The Township received, staff was directed in the summer of 2022 to work with Duke Energy to turn off the remaining lights. A handful of lights were deemed necessary near parks or busy intersections (via a study conducted by the Police Department), with the remaining lights set to be turned off by December 31, 2022.
Due to delays in Duke Energy’s work schedule, they are now ready to begin the final switch-off of lights. See above statistics on the petition response. Also click here and here to view prior communication on the Township’s website regarding street lighting.
