Streetlighting Petition – Reminder to Property Owners in the former Village of Amelia

The books for the Village of Amelia should be closed by the end of this month.  Thus, they are no longer responsible for paying the streetlighting bills.  We have proposed the option of a special lighting district to the residents of Sedona Ridge and Quail Creek.

The Township does not pay for the operation and maintenance of street lighting in subdivisions, unless approved by petition to create a special lighting district.

Should a special lighting district come into existence, there would be an assessment on property taxes agreed to by the benefitted property owners.

The cost of the lighting assessment is generally calculated by dividing the Duke Energy bill cost by the number of parcels within the designated district/subdivision. Current estimates range from $30-$40 per year per lot to be paid by owners with their semi-annual property tax bill.  However, the petition process requires a hearing and actual costs will be calculated annually.

Should a special lighting district not come into existence, Duke Energy will take action to disable the photocells that operate the lights and create a plan to remove the lighting fixtures from the right of way.

To initiate a lighting district, at least 51% of the property owners must sign and return the petition in order for an assessment to be considered by the Trustees.  Therefore, if you do not vote IN FAVOR of the Streetlighting petition, you are counted as a NO VOTE.

We have sent several reminders regarding the streetlighting petition process necessary to request a lighting district be created to cover the cost of maintaining these lights.

At this point in time, less than 30% have responded to each petition.

If you are a resident of Sedona Ridge or Quail Creek Subdivision without an active Homeowner’s Association, and you want to keep the streetlights in your subdivision, please be advised that you must respond to the petition mailed to each property owner.   The mailing included the petition form for Sedona Ridge & Quail Creek (click on name of the subdivision to complete the street lighting petition)
