Updating PTPD’s Automated License Plate Readers: A Step Forward in Public Safety
In our constant pursuit of making our community safer and more secure, we at the Pierce Township Police Department are thrilled to announce the latest upgrade to our Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs).
What are ALPRs?
Automated License Plate Readers, or ALPRs, are specialized camera systems that capture images of license plates on vehicles and then use software to convert these images into readable text. These systems can be mounted on stationary objects such as poles or traffic lights or on moving vehicles like patrol cars.
We’ve prepared the above video to provide a clearer understanding of how this groundbreaking technology will be utilized and its numerous benefits.
We understand the importance of privacy and are fully committed to ensuring the rights and safety of our community members. Rest assured, the ALPR system will be used following all policies and procedures, as with all Law Enforcement Databases the PTPD uses in all investigations.
