Board of Trustees Declares State of Emergency
During an emergency meeting on Saturday, the Pierce Township Board of Trustees approved an emergency declaration in response to the rising Ohio River (see below).
The Ohio River is expected to hit 60′ (or higher) in the coming days, which would cause significant flooding issues in the township.
The emergency declaration will help with the response to the potential flooding issues, according to Pierce Township Fire Chief Craig Wright.
“The resolution gives us some authority to not come before the Board [of Trustees] as we normally would. If we would have to incur costs, if we would have to do an emergency contract with a vendor; it would apply to township-wide service […] things we would potentially have to do at a moment’s notice,” said Wright.
The state of emergency extends through Wednesday. The Ohio River is forecasted to rise to its highest levels on Monday.
